Chambolle-Musigny “Les Chardannes” Reviews

Score: 88 | April 15, 2013 | Burghound.com
A discreet hint of wood only emerges after 30 minutes or so of air along with ripe and somewhat somber wild dark berry fruit aromas that display hints of spice and warm earth. There is good volume but also solid detail to the medium-bodied flavors that possess a suave and supple mouth feel before culminating in a delicious, focused and attractively intense finish. This is not an especially elegant Chambolle villages but there is good complexity and persistence.

A deft use of oak adds spice accents to the strawberry and raspberry favors without being heavy-handed. Balanced, this is more chunky than elegant.

A ripe but attractively layered and perfumed nose of dark cherry and violet aromas leads to round and nicely rich middle weight flavors that possess good vibrancy on the attractively persistent finish. This is not an especially elegant Chambolle, but then Chardannes rarely is, and the tannins and mouth feel are consistent with that touch of toughness the vineyard typically displays.
